Leadership development

In order to make sustained change in health care toward the elimination of racial and ethnic disparities it is essential to educate a new generation of health care professionals and leaders with expertise and vision in this area. The DSC is leading efforts to develop local and national leaders that will advance disparities research, education, and policy and practice strategies to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health care. We are actively involved in cultural competence and disparities education for health care executives, health professions faculty, fellows, and graduate and undergraduate health professions students. Examples of DSC activities in this area include hosting an executive health care disparities institute leading curriculum development and faculty development efforts in culturally competent care at Harvard Medical School, and developing a one-year Disparities Leadership Fellowship (January 2007).
