Wellman Center’s research programs are built upon a diversified foundation of extramural funding support. The Center generates over $23M of extramural funding to support our on-going research activities in FY’10. Funding from federal sources (NIH, NSF and DoD) comprise almost 55% of total research support. Research sponsored by private industry and foundations and intellectual property revenues comprise the remaining 45% of research support.

The Wellman Center's intellectual property licensed to industry annually generates royalty revenues which are shared between the hospital and the Center. Wellman's share of these discretionary revenues ($6.6M in FY'10) provides support for innovative, pilot research projects; research startup packages for newly recruited faculty; the purchase of shared, core equipment; and renovations and upgrades to laboratory facilities.
