Wellman Center’s research programs are built upon a diversified foundation of extramural funding support. The Center generates over $22M of extramural funding to support our on-going research activities in FY’12. Funding from federal sources (NIH, NSF and DoD) comprise almost 58% of total research support. Research sponsored by private industry and foundations comprise 18% and intellectual property revenues used to suppport research contribute another 24%.

The Wellman Center's intellectual property licensed to industry annually generates royalty revenues which are shared between the hospital and the Center. Wellman's share of these discretionary revenues ($5.1M in FY'12) provides support for innovative, pilot research projects; research startup packages for newly recruited faculty; the purchase of shared, core equipment; and renovations and upgrades to laboratory facilities.
