Job Title
Hospitality and Escort Volunteer

Immediate Supervisor:
Joanne LaFransesca, R.N., Nurse Manager.

Objective:
To help provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the waiting room for patients and their care givers by being available to offer refreshments and lunches and being able to escort patients.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to work independently, but a willingness to take direction from staff.
  • Comfortable with people with cancer.
  • Ability to escort patients in a wheelchair.
  • Sensitive and caring personality.
Days & Times Needed:

Monday through Friday
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (3-4 hours shifts within this time frame)
  

Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Maintain welcoming presence in the waiting area to make patients and care givers comfortable.
  • Offer refreshments to patients.
  • Order and serve lunch to patients and clean up after lunch.
  • Visit with patients who might benefit from a visitor and engage in friendly conversation.
  • Escort patients to lobby and wait for departure vehicle. Assist patient to vehicle at curbside.
  • Perform general hospitality duties.
  • Keep hospitality area neat and clean.
Limitations:
  • Do not provide counseling or personal advice to patients.
  • Refer all medical questions to staff.
  • Respect patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Refer unusual requests to medical staff.
  • Volunteers must wear their volunteer jackets and badges at all times.
Training / Orientations:
  • Fire Safety
  • Standard Precautions
  • Patient Confidentiality
  • Scheduled shadow shift with experienced volunteer.
