Dr. Sandeep Karajanagi received his Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Mumbai (India) in 2001 and his PhD degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY) in 2006. His graduate work was on the preparation of novel biologically active nanomaterials and yielded him 11 peer-reviewed publications. He then joined the renowned labs of Prof. Robert Langer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in 2006. His work at MIT was in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering where he collaborated with the MGH Voice Center to develop a novel injectable biomaterial for restoring pliability to scarred vocal folds. He was hired at the MGH Voice Center in October 2008 to facilitate the clinical translation of the biomaterial(s) that he developed at MIT.

Dr. Karajanagi is an Assistant Biomedical Engineer (Scientist) at the MGH Voice Center and has a joint appointment at the Harvard Medical School as an Instructor in the Department of Surgery. He also has an appointment at MIT as a Research Affiliate in Prof. Robert Langer’s group. His research interests are in developing injectable biomaterials and controlled drug-release technologies specifically optimized for treating laryngeal diseases and pathologies. His current responsibilities include working with contract manufacturing organizations and executing Technology Transfer activities in order to aid in the clinical testing of our lead biomaterial(s). In addition, he is developing second-generation implantable biomaterials and drug delivery vectors for treatment of vocal fold scar. Dr. Karajanagi is a member of the American Chemical Society and American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
