How You Can Help

A traumatic injury may have impaired or threatened your own life or the life of a friend or family member, and you may feel there is nothing you can do to help. In fact, there is a way you can help - an easy and important one.

By making a gift to the Mass General Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, you can help the Massachusetts General Hospital continue to provide the best patient care possible to your loved ones, neighbors and thousands of others. You may make your gift in honor or in memory of a friend or family member. Or, like many Massachusetts General Hospital patients and their families, you may make your gift in recognition of the excellent care given by a physician, nurse or other caregiver.

We welcome and appreciate gifts of any size. Since our institution was founded in 1811, the Mass General has relied heavily on the generosity of friends and supporters. Today, as reimbursements to specialists and academic centers have decreased and the pressure for efficiency and cost-effectiveness are at an all-time high, we need your help more than ever.

With Your Help, We Can…

The need for philanthropy has never been greater. Together with the support of other Mass General friends, your tax-deductible donation will go a long way toward critical facility improvements that will enable us to provide better care to our patients.

Financial Issues

Mass General assesses and stabilizes all patients that present to the Emergency Department, regardless of their ability to pay. Because we understand that traumatic injuries can leave patients and family members with financial concerns and anxiety, representatives from our Patient Financial Services meet with patients and/or family members soon after admission in order to help them understand their insurance coverage and/or what other financial resources may be available to assist them with their medical and other bills.

Confidentiality

At Massachusetts General Hospital, we place highest priority on the patient’s right to privacy with regard to their healthcare. We also recognize the added sensitivities for patients experiencing traumatic injuries. Our medical and office staff is trained to protect your private health information, and our patient care and waiting areas are intentionally discrete. We often care for high-profile patients who require heightened confidentiality because of media or legal interest, so you can feel comfortable that we have experience in protecting patients’ health information and/or their identity.
