About Us
Welcome to the Department of Surgery. This site offers information about our physician staff, clinical programs, research, educational and continuing educational programs, and our alumni association.
The Department of Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, chaired by Andrew L. Warshaw, MD, has a long tradition of excellence in clinical care, teaching and research and is viewed as one of the most outstanding academic surgical programs in the United States. The Department of Surgery comprises more than 280 faculty members, including Professors, Senior Associates, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors Instructors, and Clinical and Research Fellows. The Department is organized into ten Divisions, each with its own Chief. Each Division has developed its own nationally recognized area of clinical expertise. In addition, specialty training is a hallmark of each area. Each Division supports distinct research initiatives that contribute important new knowledge to both the surgical and the broader medical community. The Department also participates in several multidisciplinary programs that seek to integrate the patient care, research, and educational activities of several specialties around particular categories of disease.
