SPOTRIAS

In 2006, the Partners Stroke Team at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital received a 5-year SPOTRIAS award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) to perform three inter-related acute stroke research projects. Each of these projects originated in the MGH basic science research laboratories.

SPOTRIAS at Partners

All three projects include adult patients with acute ischemic stroke (within 9 hours of stroke onset).

  • Project 1 (Oxygen therapy in Acute Stroke) to assess the safety and therapeutic potential for Normobaric oxygen (NBO) versus room air in patients with acute stroke.
  • Project 2 (IMPACT -Infarct Modeling through Perfusion Assessment by CT) to assess CTP prediction of maximal tissue salvage and clinical improvement in acute stroke.
  • Project 3 (The Role of Oxidative Stress and Matrix Metalloproteinases in Acute Ischemic Stroke) to assess oxidative stress and matrix metalloproteinases in acute ischemic stroke.
  • Cores Description of the Partners cores.
  • Participating Staff View the list of staff members involved in the project.

A subject can be enrolled into one project, a combination of any 2 projects, or all 3 projects.
