Nonverbal Learning Disabilities (NVLD) Detail

The following scale can help identify symptoms of non-verbal learning disability in children and adolescents. This scale is just one component of an evaluation. Do not assume that a particular "score" on any rating scale or screening tool means a child has a particular disorder. A diagnosis should be made only by a trained clinician after a thorough assessment. Symptoms suggestive of suicidal or harmful behaviors warrant immediate attention by a trained clinician.

Children's Nonverbal Learning Disabilities Scale (C-NLD)

This 15-item report screens three areas for Non-verbal Learning Disorder: motor skills, visual-spatial skills, and interpersonal skills. Referral for a more in-depth evaluation of NVLD could be considered if a parent reports deficits "Sometimes" or "Often" on more than half the items examining motor skills (at least 3 of the 4 items), visual-spatial skills (at least 4 of the 7 items), and interpersonal skills (at least 3 or the 4 items).
