Disruptive Behavior Detail
The scales described below can help identify a variety of symptoms affecting children and adolescents. Do not assume that a particular "score" on any rating scale or screening tool means a child has a particular disorder-these instruments are only one component of an evaluation. Diagnoses should be made only by a trained clinician after a thorough assessment. Symptoms suggestive of suicidal or harmful behaviors warrant immediate attention by a trained clinician.

Conduct Disorder Scale (CDS)
Student

The CDS is a 40- item checklist for conduct disorders in individuals ages 5-22. The CDS assesses aggressive and non-aggressive conduct, deceitfulness, theft, and rule violations. It can be administered by anyone who has had direct, sustained contact with the referred individual (including teachers, parents, siblings, etc.) and takes 5-10 minutes to administer.

Adjustment Scales for Children and Adolescents (ASCA)
Teacher

The ASCA is used with children and adolescents ages 5-17. It contains 156 items that measure positive and problem behaviors in contextual situations involving authority, peers, smaller or weaker youths, recreation, learning, and confrontation. It takes 10-20 minutes to complete. The ASCA identifies six core syndromes: Attention-Deficit Hyperactive, Solitary Aggressive (Provocative), Solitary Aggressive (Impulsive), Oppositional Defiant, Diffident, and Avoidant, and two supplementary syndromes: Delinquent and Lethargic (Hypoactive).

Social Skills Rating System (SSRS)
Parent Teacher Student

A standardized series of questionnaires to screen and classify children and adolescents suspected of having social behavior problems. These questionnaires evaluate teacher-student relationships, peer acceptance, and academic performance by assessing both positive and problem social behaviors. The student self-report is used with children and adolescents aged 8-18 and takes 10-25 minutes to complete.

Reynolds Adolescent Adjustment Screening Inventory (RAASI)
Student

A 32-item (5-minute) self-report screening measure of psychological adjustment for use with adolescents ages 12-19. There are four scales: antisocial behavior, anger control problems, emotional distress, and self-esteem and social inhibition.
