RSMG developed and currently utilizes an automated database system to help store and evaluate information on all research groups. This Space Management System (SMS) is an interactive system that not only stores survey data, but also incorporates extensive analytical, modeling, and reporting capabilities. Utilizing this comprehensive database, the space allocation process, and particularly the process of planning for anticipated space changes, becomes far more efficient and reliable. A description of the current survey components and process follows.

Benefits of SMS

  • Identify which Departments, Units or Centers are occupying Research space
  • How much space are Principal Investigators using and how is it being used
  • What levels and types of funding are supporting research sites
  • How many and what types of personnel work for a Principal Investigator at a research site
  • What equipment is located at a research site
