Center for Biomarkers in ImagingThe Clinical Trials Program and the Center for Biomarkers in Imaging at MGH have promoted advanced techniques such as dynamic contrast enhanced perfusion imaging, fused PET/CT imaging, three-dimensional volumetric imaging, and cardiac CT because there is growing evidence that these advanced techniques may indicate a clinical response at an earlier time point or be a better predictor of clinical response than standard techniques. As a result, an increasing proportion of the Department's central review services, especially those for early stage clinical trials, are related to advanced imaging techniques.
Drug Development | Clinical TrialsThe thriving Clinical Trials Program is both a consultation service and a resource for central image analysis. Giles Boland, M.D. works closely with contract research organizations, advising on the optimal use of imaging in clinical trials, including clinical trial design, protocol selection, investigator site training, and development and selection of assessment criteria. In addition, their management team selects MGH radiologists who have the combination of skills and experience that are best suited to the demands of each clinical trial and who can meet demanding schedules and moving deadlines.
RCG HealthCare ConsultingAs a consulting group that is run by seasoned practitioners of radiology, RCG HealthCare Consulting is uniquely able to understand and relate to the problems of other radiology departments and to provide expert advice. In October 2003, RCG HealthCare Consulting responded to increasing demand by opening a west coast office in San Francisco.

Teleradiology
The primary goal of teleradiology at MGH is to provide support for other health care institutions in the form of second opinions, sub-specialty consultations, and peer review. In addition, teleradiology is offered as a primary interpretation service in situations in which radiology demand exceeds capacity. Thus, teleradiology can help improve patient care, offer more predictable report schedules for practicing physicians, and provide a more balanced work schedule for radiologists. With a staff of more than 100 American Board of Radiology certified physicians who have first-class academic expertise, many with specialist clinical knowledge, the MGH Department of Radiology is positioned well to provide these services.
Tele3D Advantage (3-D Imaging Laboratory & Radiology Computer-Aided Diagnostics Laboratory)
Reconstructing medical imaging data from the typical 2-dimensional format, such as those from CT or MRI, into 3-dimensional images has many clinical benefits. 3-D imaging expertise is not available at many hospitals. Recognizing the need for such services, Tele3D Advantage (formerly the 3-D Imaging Laboratory and Radiology Computer-Aided Diagnostics Laboratory), has initiated a program to provide 3-D Imaging services beyond the reaches of MGH.
