Joshua Hirsch, MD, FSIR, appointed Associate Vice Chair of Interventional Care - 10/09
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Joshua Hirsch has been appointed to a newly created position of Associate Vice Chair of Interventional Care for Massachusetts General Hospital Imaging.
In this new position, Dr. Hirsch will oversee all interventional services, unifying the previously separate interventional operations that span seven departmental divisions: Abdominal, Breast, Interventional Neuroradiology/ Endovascular Surgery, Musculoskeletal, Neuroradiology, Thoracic and Vascular.
Bringing the expert resources in these divisions together under Dr. Hirsch's leadership will foster interaction across disciplines and enable the sharing of best practices, ultimately leading to an enhanced service experience for referring physicians and patients.
A primary focus of this new position will be to implement effective programs for standardizing and streamlining operations-while simultaneously improving quality and safety. One such initiative currently underway is the application of "Lean" methodology techniques to interventional practices and procedures.
Dr. Hirsch completed his residency and fellowship in Radiology/Neuroradiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and went on to serve as the inaugural fellow in Interventional Neuroradiology at the Neurovascular Center of the Lahey Medical Center. Prior to joining Mass General, he was the Director of the Interventional Neuroradiology-Endovascular Neurosurgery Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
In 2003 Dr. Hirsch joined Mass General as Director of Interventional Neuroradiology/ Endovascular Neurosurgery and Chief of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. For the past six years, the service has functioned as a model of multidisciplinary care and collaboration involving all three of the neurovascular fields: neuroradiology, neurosurgery, and vascular neurology. Under Dr. Hirsch's leadership the service has experienced dramatic clinical growth and numerous academic accomplishments.
