Vascular Imaging & Intervention

Stephan Wicky, MD
Stephan Wicky, MD
Associate Director, Vascular Imaging & Intervention Division

Vascular/Interventional radiology is a constantly evolving subspecialty of radiology in which both vascular and nonvascular diseases are treated by utilizing minimally invasive approaches without the need for large surgical incisions or general anesthesia. The Interventional Radiologist is trained not only in radiographic imaging and percutaneous imaging-guided procedures, but has the clinical skills required to integrate interventional procedures into overall patient management.

Cardiovascular Intervention provides imaging of the arteries and veins utilizing selective catheter techniques, computed tomography, color-flow Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging techniques to diagnose disease and injury of the vasculature and help devise its therapy. Percutaneous vascular interventions, including balloon angioplasty as well as inferior vena cava filter placement, stent placement, thrombolysis and atherectomy for arterial occlusive disease are available. Management of neoplasms and arteriovenous malformations with embolization and intra-arterial chemotherapy, as well as venous access device implantation, repositioning and management are provided. Control of life-threatening hemorrhage with embolization and vascular occlusive therapy is provided on an emergency basis. Other procedures include venous samplings, Aortic Stent graft placement, Lymphangiograms and various contrast injections.
