Musculoskeletal Imaging & Intervention at Massachusetts General Hospital offers a full range of diagnostic services and image-guided therapies for patients with disorders of the joints and spine. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality care in a personalized environment that combines compassion with proven research advances. One of our top priorities is ease of access. We pride ourselves on responsiveness to patient inquiries and physician contacts.

The musculoskeletal radiologists at Massachusetts General Hospital are experts in minimally invasive, image-guided treatments of joint and spine disorders. Our group includes recognized national authorities who publish in the radiological literature and speak at many scientific meetings. We work closely with other specialists, such as orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, neurosurgeons, rheumatologists and oncologists, in order to provide a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to the evaluation and treatment of patients.

Our special interests include sports-related injuries, joint and spine intervention for pain management, and tumors of the bones and muscles. State-of-the-art equipment includes MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (computed tomography), digital fluoroscopy and positron emission tomography (PET).

We are recognized for the development and improvement of several diagnostic tests, such as MR arthrography for the evaluation of painful shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, elbows and wrists. In the spine, we specialize in the imaging of disk disease, facet arthritis, nerve compression and vertebral collapse due to osteoporosis. We perform lumbar discography, lumbar and cervical facet blocks, nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections and vertebroplasty. In patients with possible tumors, we perform needle biopsies of bone as well as soft tissues. We are an international referral center for image-guided, minimally invasive treatment of osteoid osteoma.
