About the MGH Pediatric Imaging FellowshipThe MGH Pediatric Imaging Fellowship is a comprehensive, educational experience emphasizing clinical correlations with all aspects of pediatric imaging, emergency room, intensive care, CT (16-64 detector), MR (both 1.5T and 3T) and ultrasound, including invasive and interventional procedures and sedation. Instruction includes advanced techniques of pediatric cardiovascular imaging (CT and MR), neuroimaging, spectroscopy, diffusion tensor imaging, tractography and functional brain imaging, MR Urography and Cholangiography, musculoskeletal imaging, sports medicine, cardiac CTA and MR, digital 3D image rendition and processing. Technique and radiation dose optimization for specific imaging tasks will be emphasized.
The MGH Pediatric Imaging Fellowship is accredited by the ACGME.
For those who are interested in further subspecialization, a second year of pediatric neuroradiology training can be arranged, under the direction of P. Ellen Grant, MD.
ResearchThere are numerous opportunities for fellows to develop or continue research in the Pediatric Imaging Division. We offer on-site clinical research facilities with many full-time dedicated research staff. On-going research projects include: techniques for radiation dose optimization in children, MRI imaging of inflammatory bowel disease, development of novel pediatric neuroimaging techniques (functional MRI, 3D brain mapping, diffusion and perfusion imaging, MR spectroscopy, photo-optical imaging and 3D neurosonography). The fellow will have protected academic time for research projects.
Applying for the MGH Pediatric Imaging Fellowship Program
Timeline We will review applications and perform interviews in the spring of the year preceding the fellowship year, which runs from July through the end of June. Please contact us directly for any requests for alternate scheduling.
Selection Process The selection process involves an initial assessment of your CV, personal statement and letters of recommendation (see Application Materials, below). Selected applicants will be invited for 1/2 day interviews with MGH Pediatric Imaging staff members and will have the opportunity to get acquainted with our working environment and facilities. Currently we offer one fellowship position in pediatric body imaging (including neuro, nuclear medicine and interventional) and one position in pediatric neuroimaging.
Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs, IMGs) Foreign medical graduates are encouraged to apply for our fellowship. Please Note: to be considered for a fellowship position, you must have passed the entire USMLE (Steps 1, 2, 3, CSA and TOEFL) and be eligible for a Limited Medical License in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Please visit the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and Massachusetts Medical Board for more detailed information.
Guidelines for Application MaterialsImportant: Please do not send us documents other than those listed below, as this creates unnecessary paperwork. If other documents are deemed necessary (e.g., Medical School transcripts, USMLE score transcripts, residency rotation reports) we will contact you and request the specific documents. We do not require the Universal Fellowship Application Form, so there is no need to send one with your application materials.
You may send your application documents piecemeal, as long as you send only the required documents.
