About the MGH Breast Imaging Fellowship
MGH Breast Imaging is proud to offer a very comprehensive Breast Imaging fellowship. We offer world-class staff, varied clinical cases, leading-edge technology and an in-house research program. Since we are organ based, we offer our fellows in depth exposure to all aspects of screening, diagnostic, interventional and research breast imaging experiences. Graduates of our fellowship program have been successful in both academic and private practice.
Clinical PracticeAs the breast imaging fellow, you will have exposure to a high volume of digital screening mammograms, digital diagnostic mammograms, breast MRI and interventional procedures. Specifically, the interventional procedures include: stereotactic core biopsy, ultrasound-guided interventions, needle localization and MRI guided biopsy.
There is ample volume of cases from which to learn. Each day the MGH Breast Imaging Division performs 170 screening mammograms, 50 diagnostic mammograms, 15 MRI cases and 8-12 biopsy procedures. These studies are obtained and reviewed with state-of-the-art technology. We have both GE and Hologic digital mammography machines (9 total), a prone Lorad stereotactic core biopsy table, both GE and Phillips ultrasound machines, and perform MRI with 1.5 and 3T GE magnets.
ResearchThere are numerous opportunities for fellows to develop or continue research in the Breast Imaging Division. We offer on site clinical research facilities with many full time dedicated research staff. On going research projects include; 3D Mammography (tomosynthesis), MRI, optical research, electrical impedance and many other topics. Additionally, interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged with rotations in Breast Surgery and Breast Pathology. The fellow will have protected academic time for research projects.
Applying for the MGH Breast Imaging Fellowship ProgramTimeline Application due date is September 15. The majority of the interviews will be conducted in October.
Selection Process
The selection process involves an initial assessment of your CV, personal statement and letters of recommendation (see Application Materials, below). Selected applicants will be invited for interviews with the MGH Breast Imaging staff members and lunch with our current fellows. Applicants will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with our working environment and facilities. Currently we offer three fellowship positions.
Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs, IMGs) Foreign medical graduates are encouraged to apply for our fellowship. Please Note: to be considered for a fellowship position, you must have passed the entire USMLE (Steps 1, 2, 3, CSA and TOEFL) and be eligible for a Full Medical License at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Please visit the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and Massachusetts Medical Board for more detailed information.
