  • MGH gift helps Charlestown residents battling addictions
    The Charlestown community soon will have a safe place for men to recover from addictions to alcohol and other drugs. With a $2 million gift from the MGH, the hospital has joined local residents in the construction of the Charlestown Recovery House, a 25-bed facility for men in the early stages of recovery.
  • The MGH's youngest remembered in annual service
    The first Sunday of each November, the MGH's Comfort and Support after Loss Team hosts the Pediatric Memorial Service to remember and celebrate the lives of the hospital's youngest patients who have died. Representing patients from Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Neonatology, the Pediatric Memorial Service has for the past 16 years drawn families, relatives, friends and MGH staff together to honor these children.
  • MGHers celebrate top workplace honors
    When the MGH is ranked as a top employer by two national organizations, it's time to celebrate. Employees recently enjoyed two receptions held in honor of the hospital being named as one of the top 100 companies for working mothers by Working Mother magazine and the 10th best workplace in the nation for employees over 50 by AARP.
  • Center for Global Health brings thought leaders to the MGH
    This November, the Global Health Seminar Series hosted by the MGH Center for Global Health (CGH) brought Paul Farmer, MD, PhD, and Kevin Bales, PhD, two leaders in the field of human rights, to speak at the hospital. As founders of international nonprofit organizations that address healthcare and status inequities, they highlighted the roles individuals and academic institutions can play in promoting healthcare quality and access in an increasingly interconnected — and increasingly unequal — global society.
  • In memoriam: Mortimer J. Buckley, MD
    Mortimer J. Buckley, MD, who served as chief of the MGH Cardiac Surgery Unit from 1970 to 1998, died Nov. 24 following a valiant fight against multiple myeloma.
  • American Academy of Nursing inducts two MGH nurses
    Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse, and Diane Carroll, APRN, PhD, nurse researcher, recently received the prestigious honor of induction as fellows into the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) at the organization's 34th annual meeting and conference in Washington, D.C. Nov. 10.
