Helping in New Orleans

Last month, a group of MGHers had the opportunity to contribute to the reconstruction of New Orleans through Operation Giving Back, a program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Residents Todd Lancaster, MD; Nicolas Melo, MD; Jennifer LaFemina, MD; Jeanwan Kang, MD; Ugwuji Maduekwe, MD; and Alex Haynes, MD, MPH; along with Suzanne Williams, executive assistant in the Department of Surgery, and her husband Anthony; and Susan Briggs, MD, of the Department of Surgery, teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to prepare a schoolhouse for renovation into a health clinic, which will be the only one in the devastated lower 9th district. Operation Giving Back was founded in 2004 by MGH Surgeon-in-Chief Andrew W. Warshaw, MD, FACS, while he was serving as chairman of the ACS Subcommittee on Socioeconomic Issues. For more information about the program, contact Williams at swilliams7@partners.org or (617) 726-8254.
