The MGH named top workplace in academia
On the heels of the MGH’s recent designation as a top employer for both working mothers by Working Mother magazine and for employees over
age 50 by the AARP, the hospital has added another honor to this impressive list. The Scientist, a magazine for life science professionals, has named the MGH the Best Place to Work in Academia in the United States. Now in its fifth year, the list puts the MGH in illustrious
company — the National Cancer Institute’s campus in Frederick, MD; Clemson University; Purdue University; and the Trudeau Institute were the other organizations to make the top five. In total,
The Scientist recognized 40 U.S.
organizations and 15 international institutions for their commitment to providing stimulating and innovative workplaces for members of the
scientific community.
The selection of the MGH as the top workplace for researchers is
particularly significant because the
institutions included on the list are
chosen by members of the international research community. To compile the list each year,
The Scientist asks readers to identify aspects of the
workplace that are most important for job satisfaction and organizations that meet or exceed these standards. This year, the magazine received more than 2,000 responses
with characteristics such as positive and productive relationships with colleagues, resources, pay and tenure identified as some of the most significant aspects of a fulfilling work environment.
"This is a wonderful testament to the excitement that our scientists experience every day they are immersed in the MGH research environment,” says Richard Bringhurst, MD, senior vice president for Medicine and Research Management. "It is the chemistry of collegiality and collaboration in particular that makes our community so appealing.”
A reception currently is being planned for all members of the hospital community to celebrate this new recognition. More information will be available in upcoming issues of MGH Hotline and through broadcast e-mail in the coming weeks. |
