  • A special Halloween treat with the Red Sox's Kevin Youkilis
    Trick-or-treaters from the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Center and the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center at the MGH enjoyed a Halloween surprise Oct. 31. Just two days after winning the World Series championship, Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis paid a visit to the young patients.
  • Spotlight on domestic violence
    At the MGH, victims of domestic violence have many resources available to them. During October — National Domestic Violence Awareness Month — the MGH acknowleged the work of many programs across the hospital that address this important topic.
  • Hand Hygiene Quality Incentive Program continues
    The hospital's October hand hygiene compliance results were announced this week with a slight decline in the before-patient-contact rate to 86 percent, and the after-patient-contact rate coming in at 91 percent. While the before-patient-contact rate fell slightly below the 90-90 goal, hospital staff still managed to post record high hand hygiene results for September and October.
  • Now is the time for flu shots
    With flu season kicking into high gear, the MGH is encouraging all hospital employees and patients who have not yet received a flu shot to protect themselves and help prevent the spread of influenza by being vaccinated.
  • Operation Ready's disaster response
    It wasn't a typical Saturday morning Oct. 27 when hundreds of MGHers — including nurses, doctors and staff from Environmental Services, Ambulatory Care, the Emergency Department, Police and Security, and Patient Transportation — gathered at the Main Entrance and White Ramp to receive more than 90 mock victims for a citywide disaster drill called Operation Ready.
  • Rolling up your sleeves and improving service
    The title of the Oct. 17 installment of the MGH/MGPO Service Improvement Department's Service Learning Series, "Stage IV: Implementing Change: Putting Your Service Vision into Action," describes a crucial moment in a service improvement initiative: the transition from organizing to action.
