Advancing educations with AMMP

A dedicated group of MGHers were applauded for their commitment to pursuing their educational goals as they were named recipients of scholarships from the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP). The AMMP scholarship program awards up to $1,000 to employees of the MGH, Partners HealthCare and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital to help recipients obtain education and training to broaden their careers in health care. The 2007 recipients are Patricia Boone, Janene Cupid, Constance Cunha, Thanh Huibers, Kirk Jones, Barbara Lampkin, Anita Melton, Melinda Reid-Veress, Angelina Rosa and Lin Wu. Lampkin and former AMMP member Candace Burns, previously of MGH Human Resources, also were acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to the organization.

During the Sept. 14 awards ceremony, Jeff Davis, senior vice president for Human Resources, commended the organization for its dedication to creating bright futures through the scholarship program. "There's no greater gift to give people than providing them support for education," he said. "This scholarship program is one of AMMP's most valuable activities."

That assessment rang true for Waveney Cole, a staff assistant for MGH Patient Care Services, who shared her experiences as a 2005 scholarship recipient. "In the fall of 2004, when I was five months pregnant, I enrolled in a health care management program at Newbury College," she said. "That semester I signed up for three classes. Prior to this I had not been in a classroom in 22 years. It was very challenging, but I did not give up, and I am currently in my third year of college. I am confident that with my commitment to succeed, and with the continued support of AMMP and the MGH community, I will accomplish my goals."
