  • The MGH among top hospitals for quality and safety
    The MGH has been ranked among the very best in the nation for patient safety and health care quality practices, receiving top marks from the Leapfrog Group, a national hospital quality rating organization. Evaluated by the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey, one of the most complete and current assessment tools for quality and safety available, the MGH was designated a 2007 Top Hospital from among the 1,285 hospitals responding to the survey.
  • MGH investigators receive prestigious NIH grants
    Three MGH scientists have received major awards from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) in recognition of their innovative research studies. Emery Brown, MD, PhD, of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care, is one of 12 recipients of the 2007 Pioneer Awards, $2.5 million grants to established researchers.
  • Advancing careers with help from the MAO
    The MGH Multicultural Affairs Office (MAO) established the Minority Faculty Development Awards program to aid researchers like Sherri-Ann M. Burnett-Bowie, MD, MPH.

  • MGH lab services under the microscope for Joint Commission lab survey
    On Sept. 17, two Joint Commission surveyors completed the hospital's unannounced laboratory survey following a six-day inspection of all aspects and environments involved with lab testing at the MGH — from point-of-care testing, tissue banking, phlebotomy and transfusion procedures to other lab-associated work and settings.

    Studies have shown that alcohol-based hand gels such as Cal Stat are more effective than soap and water in removing bacteria from hands.
