Tune in and relax
Beginning Sept. 4, inpatients
can tune in to two new television channels designed specifically for their relaxation. Each patient room TV will carry the Continuous Ambient Relaxation Environment (C.A.R.E) Channel 45, which will provide beautiful nature images and soothing instrumental music, and the MGH Relaxation and Humor Channel 46, which will air programs for those seeking
a humorous distraction or instructional relaxation. The new programming will
be available day and night through the hospital’s closed circuit television network. The C.A.R.E and MGH Relaxation
and Humor channels were established
with funding from an MGH Making a Difference grant
and assistance from MGH Environmental Services. Shelly Bazes, RN, NP, of the Center for Quality and Safety, and Cathy Calder, RN, NP, of Ellison 10, are the
project’s co-managers.
“Non-English speakers
can enjoy Channel 45 because
of its universally relaxing
components of music and peaceful images,” says Bazes. “We will have bookmarks with information about the channels available for patients’ bedside tables. Our hope is that staff will have these comforting programs on when patients are admitted to their rooms.” An information table and a television
airing the programs will be set up in
the Main Corridor Sept. 4 and 5 from
9 am to 1 pm. Representatives will be
on hand to answer any questions and
provide information. For more information, contact Bazes at sbazes@partners.org or Calder at ccalder1@partners.org.
