Hello? Cancer Center, it’s for you

Would you like to know what it’s like to answer more than 1,000 phone calls per day? Just ask the employees of the Call Center at the MGH Cancer Center. Between July 2006 and June 2007, staff members answered 325,530 calls placed to the Cancer Center, took 600 messages daily and triaged countless e-mails to the appropriate parties for response.

The MGH community had the opportunity to match Call Center employees’ voices with their faces at an open house Aug. 16 at the center’s new location on Yawkey 7. The Call Center relocated to the former Medical Records Room, which became available when the Cancer Center transitioned to using electronic medical records. This space provides a centralized site for handling the Cancer Center’s immense call volume.
