Night at the Pops
The MGH’s own Oscar-worthy stars recently were honored at the “Partners
Night at the Pops: A Celebration in Honor of Our Physicians” at
Symphony Hall. Conductor Keith Lockhart of the Boston Pops Orchestra hosted
the program with a musical “Tribute to the Oscars.”
Playing off the Oscar theme, one of the evening’s highlights included
the physician talent segment, during which 10 Partners physicians made
their big-screen debuts by starring in a “Hooray for Hollywood”
video. Thanks to the magic of modern video technology, the physicians
took the place of select actors in four classic films — “Superman,”
“The Wizard of Oz,” “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,”
and “The Perils of Pauline” — and appeared alongside
the original costars. Lee H. Schwamm, MD, director of TeleStroke and Acute
Stroke Services, (pictured above at right) starred as the Scarecrow
in the Partners’ version of “The Wizard of Oz.” Nancy
J. Tarbell, MD, chief of Pediatric Radiation Oncology, (above at left)
gave a performance as Lois Lane in the version of “Superman.”
At the video’s conclusion, Schwamm, Tarbell and the rest of this
year’s physician talent were introduced to the more than 1,700 physicians
and guests. Each physician earned an Oscar in the “Best Physicians
Appearing in Scenes from Blockbuster Film Classics That Have Never Been
Screened Before Tonight” category.
