• MGH dedicates Norman Knight Nursing Center
  Under a packed Bulfinch Tent June 5, the MGH Department of Nursing marked a significant milestone with the dedication of The Norman Knight Nursing Center for Clinical and Professional Development. The new Founders 3 home for the center was made possible through the generosity and vision of local philanthropist and businessman Norman Knight, broadcasting legend and founder of Knight Quality Stations.

• Honoring top MGH employees
  Two Employee of the Year events took place May 18, with both Radiation Oncology and the Cancer Center honoring exemplary staff members.

• Tax-sheltered annuity 101
  A tax-sheltered annuity (TSA) is an optional retirement savings account offered through the MGH. When employees enroll in a TSA, pre-tax deductions are made from each paycheck, allowing them to save on taxes while saving for the future.

• 2007 Durant Fellows chosen
  The late Thomas S. Durant, MD, former assistant director of the MGH, was a true humanitarian. He spent much of his medical career in places such as Cambodia, Honduras, Bosnia, Rwanda and Afghanistan, bringing healing and hope to populations victimized by war or natural disaster. Since his death from cancer in 2001, his life's work and spirit of compassion have come to comprise a celebrated legacy — the Thomas S. Durant, MD, Fellowship in Refugee Medicine. This fellowship provides funding for MGHers to serve refugee or underserved populations with medical care and support.

• New pathway to MEEI starting mid-July
  In preparation for the demolition of the Clinics and Vincent Burnham Kennedy Buildings in the fall, the vacating of the two buildings has begun and will be completed in the next five weeks. The existing connector between the MGH and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) in the Clinics Building on the first floor will be severed in mid-July, and travel between the two hospitals via this route no longer will be possible.

• Clinical Research Day focuses on challenges
  With the theme "Transforming Clinical Research through Genetics and Genomics," the May 17 Clinical Research Day focused on two sets of challenges: the application of ever-more-complex genetic information to the understanding and treatment of common conditions like heart disease, and how investigators participating in large, multi-institutional research teams can contribute to the success of the larger project while pursuing their personal scientific and career goals.

• Coaching boys into men
  In this country, one in four women will experience intimate partner violence at some point in their lives. These and other statistics — some frightening, some hopeful — were part of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) May 17 Work/Life Seminar, "Coaching Boys into Men."
