Honoring MGH Pathology Service professionals

The dedicated employees of the MGH Pathology Service are responsible for essential, behind-the-scenes aspects of patient care — conducting tests, analyzing results and helping clinicians make treatment decisions. These staff members were honored for their diligence, commitment and dedication to patients as the department celebrated National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week April 23 through 27.

The week began in the Ether Dome with a presentation on the history of the department and its future initiatives. Featured speakers were Anand Dighe, MD, PhD, director of the Core Laboratory; James Happel, DLM, technical director of Surgical Pathology; A. John Iafrate, MD, PhD, director of Diagnostic Molecular Pathology; Kent Lewandrowski, MD, director of Clinical Services in Pathology; and David N. Louis, MD, MGH pathologist-in-chief. On April 26, Pathology staff members were treated to a special breakfast, where they were served by department leadership. The week's festivities concluded with a sundae party, where Ann Mattola, a medical technologist in the Immunopathology Unit, was awarded a pair of raffled Red Sox tickets.
