  • Renovated Charles/MGH MBTA station opens Feb. 17
    MGHers, patients and the general public who ride the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) Red Line can begin to use the reconstructed Charles/MGH train station Feb. 17. The new station, located on a pedestrian island in the center of Cambridge Street, is conveniently situated across from the west entrance of the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care.
  • George P. Baker, MD, retires from practice
    Following an illustrious 50-year career at the MGH, George P. Baker, MD, of the Bulfinch Medical Group, has stepped down from his clinical service at the hospital. He will maintain a role as chairman of the Provider Order Entry Committee and continue to represent the group on the Medical Policy Committee.
  • Backup Childcare Center gives parents peace of mind
    Finding regular, reliable childcare is a challenge for many working parents. This can become even more difficult when the family's usual childcare provider is unable to work because of an emergency, vacation or illness. MGH employees, however, have a valuable resource for when they are faced with an interruption in their children's care — the MGH Backup Childcare Center. Located in the Warren Lobby, the center cares for children ages 15 months through 12 years old and is open to hospital patients as well as MGH and Partners corporate employees.
  • New website chronicles history of the MGH
    Medical and amateur historians now can easily delve into the MGH's treasure trove of medical artifacts, paintings, photographs and sculptures thanks to a new website showcasing the hospital's rich history. Launched in December, the site contains extensive information about the hospital's nearly 200-year history.
  • MGH and Timilty: Partners in science
    It was a chilly day, but things were heating up at the James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury as the annual schoolwide science fair kicked off Feb 5. Approximately 200 eighth-graders stood by their displays as a group of MGHers serving as volunteer judges questioned the young scientists and evaluated their projects.
  • MGH and Schepens explore partnership
    The MGH and the Schepens Eye Research Institute have entered into talks to explore the possibility of a formal relationship. Scientists from the Schepens Institute, located on Staniford Street, and the MGH have collaborated for years on ocular research. However, a more official connection could allow both institutions to undertake more and better research endeavors, says Michael Gilmore, president and chief executive officer of Schepens.
