G. William Dec, Jr., MD, chief of the MGH Cardiology Division, was named the first incumbent of the Roman W. DeSanctis Professorship in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. The professorship is named in honor of Roman W. DeSanctis, MD, a longtime and distinguished member of the MGH Cardiology Division.

The Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Engineering recently awarded the first MIT-CIMIT Medical Engineering Fellowship to Olumuyiwa Ogunnika, a graduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT. Ogunnika will use the $50,000 award to support research toward a device for assessing neuromuscular disease.

The MGH Department of Surgery announced David Kling, PhD, an instructor in Pediatric Surgery, and Michael Lanuti, MD, instructor in Thoracic Surgery, as the recipients of the 2006 Surgical Research Council Junior Faculty Awards. The awards were established in 2004 and provide $25,000 in direct costs to two junior investigators with the goal of facilitating new experimental approaches, initiating new projects and assisting junior faculty members in establishing their research programs.
