Service Matters Series
The MGH Service Improvement Department will kick-off the Service Matters Series Jan. 31, from 8 to 9:30 am in the OÕKeeffe Auditorium. Speakers will include Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH; Joseph Betancourt, MD, MPH, director of the MGH Disparities Solutions Center; and Nancy Gagliano, MD, vice president for Practice Improvement, who will discuss the strategic role service will play in shaping the MGH's culture of quality and safety. Claflin Awards applications
Applications for the 2007 Claflin Awards are available for women researchers interested in supplemental funding. The awards are sponsored by the MGH Office for Women's Careers and the Executive Committee on Research. To qualify, applicants must be MDs or PhDs within seven years of their first faculty appointment and with Harvard Medical School appointments. They also must be responsible for the care of children. Applications are due by Feb. 16 and should be sent to Research Management, Grants and Contracts Office, at 50 Staniford St., 10th floor, Suite 1001. Prayers for Peace service
The MGH Chaplaincy will host an interfaith prayer service, "Prayers for Peace," Jan. 25 at 12:15 pm in the MGH Chapel. All are invited to attend.

Judges needed for Timilty Science Fair
The MGH/Timilty Partnership is seeking volunteers to judge student projects at the annual Science Fair at the James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury. Volunteers will be needed Feb. 5 through 8, from 8:45 to 11 am and may sign up for one or more days. The Partners shuttle will provide roundtrip transportation, departing the MGH at 8 am and returning at 11:45 am. Job shadow hosts needed
The MGH Community Benefit Program is seeking volunteers to host high school students Feb. 2 for the 12th annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day. Job Shadow Day aims to increase students' awareness about careers in health care and to help them learn about the skills and education necessary to succeed in a specific job or career. New location for Partners RVL Office
The Partners Research Ventures and Licensing (RVL) Office has moved to 101 Huntington Ave., fourth floor. The office is comprised of MGH and BWH Corporate Sponsored Research and Licensing, Corporate Sponsored Clinical Research, Business Development and the Center for Innovative Ventures. Perioperative nursing preparation

The MGH is offering a Perioperative Nursing Education and Orientation Program beginning March 26. The program consists of four weeks of classroom and practical
sessions followed by precepted OR orientation for five to nine months. Positions will be available in the main OR and require a full-time commitment until all competencies are passed. A commitment of five eight-hour days with some off-shifts is required during the initial phase. For more information, contact Michele Andrews at
