Thomas Lynch, MD, of MGH Hematology/Oncology, and Douglas J. Mathisen, MD, chief of General Thoracic Surgery, were two of seven physicians who received the "Crystal Ball Clearly Time Award" from the Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) for their work in the field of lung cancer. The LCA is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to patient support and advocacy for people living with lung cancer and those at risk for the disease.

The MGH Cardiac Ultrasound Laboratory was granted accreditation by the Intersocial Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). The laboratory is among the first one thousand echocardiography laboratories in the United States to be recognized for its commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.
