MGHfC
receives gifts from
Angels Above
Young patients at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC)
were treated to an MGHfC holiday tradition when Sue Horman, founder
of Angels Above Charitable Trust, and her colleague Mary Beth Brunelle
visited the Ellison 17 and 18 playrooms, the Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with their special friend from
the North Pole — Santa Claus — and bundles of toys, games
and treats for the young patients.
Horman
established Angels Above in 1996, shortly after her 18-year-old daughter,
Kimberly, died of cancer. "The MassGeneral Hospital for
Children means so much to me because my daughter received her cancer treatments
here," says Horman. "I created the organization in honor of
Kimberly because I wanted to give something back to the hospital and the
children who now are hospitalized. Through Angels Above, Mary Beth and
I hope to bring some happiness to the children's days and help to facilitate
the transition of hospitalization for these kids."
Right, the Angels Above visit the MGHfC.
Through Angels Above, Horman and Brunelle play a pivotal role in the lives
of
the children at the MGHfC. Working together with the Child Life
Department, Angels Above provides pediatric patients with special gifts
— including haircuts, in-room manicures and pedicures, massages,
special lunches in Boston or a cab ride home from the hospital. Other
contributions range from organizing holiday celebrations, birthday parties
and end of chemotherapy treatment parties to donating games, movies, art
supplies, laptops, PlayStations and DVD players.
