  • Baby Mariam receives life-saving help from MGHfC and U.S. Marines
Nine-month-old baby Mariam's treatment at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) didn't come about in a typical fashion. Her story began in Fallujah, in the Iraqi province of Anbar, approximately 43 miles west of Baghdad. She was born with a rare urological condition known as bladder exstrophy in which the bladder is exposed to the environment outside of the body.
  • MGHer goes the extra mile to help Mariam
For Aomar Nait-Talb of MGH Unit Services, a regular day on the job involves various housekeeping duties on the Ellison 17 Pediatric Surgical Services floor. Although he has worked on the floor for three years handling routine responsibilities, he recently added one more task to his work — serving as a special friend to baby Mariam and her grandparents.
  • Seeing the world through the eyes of MGHers
MGH employees turned shutterbugs had the opportunity to showcase their photography skills in the MGH Photography Department's ninth annual amateur photo contest, which drew submissions from MGHers in all areas of the hospital.
  • Improving care through High Performance Medicine
Several years ago, Partners HealthCare launched the Signature Initiatives to improve quality, safety and efficiency at its member institutions. Now known as High Performance Medicine, these initiatives aim to address widely recognized problems in health care and ensure that Partners remains a leader in patient care by improving in five areas: maximizing the use of new information technology, increasing patient safety and reducing medical errors, making high quality uniform across the Partners system, coordinating care for patients with high-cost diseases, and improving efficiency in the use of medications and radiology.
  • Coming together for Alzheimer's
The MGH hosted the premiere of the award-winning film "Family Matters: Coming Together for Alzheimer's" during a special program Nov. 16. The film introduces newly diagnosed patients and their families to the world of Alzheimer's disease by highlighting four families who share their experiences with the illness.
  • Artwork showcases courage in the face of epilepsy
The hallways of the MGH Neurology Clinic in the WACC were brightened during October and November with the colorful artwork of pediatric and adult epilepsy patients as the practice hosted the nationally rotating art exhibit "Expressions of Courage: Through the Years."
