Ojimba retires from the MGH

It was standing room only in the Trustees Room Oct. 11 as MGH colleagues, family and friends gathered to celebrate the retirement of Monsignor Felix Ojimba of MGH Chaplaincy. Ojimba, a 10-year employee of the MGH, leaves the hospital to focus on education and health initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa. Michael McElhinny, director of Chaplaincy, gave the welcoming remarks. Guests then celebrated Ojimba’s tireless dedication to the hospital community through the heartfelt reflections of many of his MGH colleagues, including Martin Mihm, MD, of MGH Dermatopathology; Ellen Robinson, RN, PhD, of the Knight Nursing Center for Professional Development; and Lillian Ananian, RN, of Blake 4.

During my ten years at the MGH, I have observed many important changes in both the Chaplaincy and the larger hospital community that favor making the MGH a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all people and cultures,” said Ojimba (seen at left). “It’s important for us to learn from our patients, their families and our colleagues. I am so grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to work with such wonderful, caring people during my time here.”

Following the luncheon, a Roman Catholic Mass was held in the MGH Chapel in honor of Ojimba’s recent elevation to Monsignor.
