  • Passing the baton: SEAMlessly: Improving patient hand-offs
    As the MGH continues to prepare for the upcoming, unannounced Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) survey, employees and staff members throughout the hospital remain committed to improving patient safety and continually providing the highest standards of care.
  • MGH supports violence prevention efforts
    The MGH, along with Partners HealthCare and the BWH, are three of four health care organizations supporting the Boston Public Health Commission's goal to end violence in Boston's neighborhoods. The MGH contributed $25,000 to help fund the commission's request for proposals from community organizations that provide violence prevention and intervention programs.
  • Prayers for peace in the Middle East
    The MGH Chapel was filled with hope as members of the hospital community gathered to pray for peace in the Middle East at a recent interfaith service. Through religious readings, music and reflection, MGHers shared their spiritual beliefs and prayed for all those currently affected by the war in the Middle East.
  • MGH discontinues use of mainframe
    It was the end of an era Aug. 15 when Partners and MGH Information Systems (IS) disconnected the IBM mainframe computers that had been operating at the hospital since the early 1970s. The MGH mainframe, a large central processing unit, had supported thousands of administrative computers since its installation, and its use had been leveraged throughout the years. But as technology has advanced, the IS teams have increasingly made use of newer server-based technology.
  • Doctors from Korea visit MGH Geriatrics
    As part of a weeklong seminar on geriatric medicine hosted by the Geriatric Education and Training Center at the BWH, 19 physicians from Korea visited the MGH's Geriatric Medicine Unit to learn about the practice's programs, education and research initiatives.
  • Blood drive challenge coming to the MGH
    The MGH soon will be infused with a bit of Hollywood glamour as employees across the hospital gear up for the seventh annual MGH/BWH Employee Blood Drive Challenge, which will take place Aug. 22 through Sept. 8. This year's contest is a "battle of the television shows," pitting the American Idol-inspired "MGH American Blood Donor Idols" against the BWH's "So You Think You Can Bleed" team, whose name is modeled after the popular show So You Think You Can Dance.
  • Ambulatory care practices get ready for JCAHO
    The MGH Practice Support Unit and the MGH Compliance Office recently co-hosted an information-packed JCAHO Resource Fair in the Thier Conference Room to help ambulatory practice staff members prepare for the upcoming Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) survey.
