Yawkey Center earns national recognition

The MGH Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care recently earned national recognition from the 2006 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel awards program (IDEAS2). The IDEAS2 awards are given annually by the American Institute of Steel Construction to recognize outstanding achievements in engineering and architecture on structural steel projects around the country. The Yawkey Center won Merit Award recognition in the category "Projects Over $75 Million."

0The IDEAS2 award is the latest in a string of accolades bestowed upon the Yawkey Center since it opened in October 2004. Others include a 2006 Healthcare Facilities Award for Design from the Boston Society of Architects; a regional 2005 Honor Award for Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architects; a 2005 Build New England Honor Award from the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts and a 2005 Honor Award from Modern Healthcare Magazine. The Yawkey Center's Howard Ulfelder, MD, Healing Garden also has been honored in the past year with a 2006 Healthcare Facilities Honor Award for Design Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects and a 2006 Honor Award for Design from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects.
