Revere
runs for MGH Revere
Youth Zone
Close to 140 runners dashed along Revere Beach for the ninth
annual MGH Revere HealthCare Center 5-Mile Road Race and Kids Fun Run
June 17. Not to be outdone were 30 walkers who also participated in the
event's 3-mile walk, and 25 children who raced down the course in the
kids run. The sun was shining and a warm ocean breeze complemented the
festive day.
The race featured a scenic beachfront course along Revere Beach Boulevard.
The top female runner was Brett Romano Ely, a nutritionist for the MGH
Revere Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, with a time of 30:58,
and Ryan Burke, a resident of Revere, was the top male runner with a time
of 28:53.
"We were thrilled with the turnout this year,"says Debra Jacobson,
administrative director of the Revere HealthCare Center. "We are
grateful to all of our community members who participated in the race
and hope that everyone had as much fun as we did. It was a great event
for a great cause."
Proceeds from the event benefit the MGH Revere Youth Zone, which provides
a safe place for youth to develop positive life skills within a caring
environment. The Youth Zone provides a wide variety of preventive, educational,
recreational and vocational planning, programs and resources that facilitate
the development of young people between the ages of 10 to 18.
