  • David N. Louis, MD, named chief of MGH Pathology Service
    David N. Louis, MD, has been appointed chief of the MGH Pathology Service, effective Sept. 1. A neuropathologist and a pioneer in deciphering the complex molecular structure of tumors, Louis is highly regarded as a leader in both the clinical and research arenas. He has been serving as associate chief of the Pathology Service and director of the Molecular Pathology Unit.
  • MGH Heart Center honors cardiac nurses
    The MGH Heart Center saluted the hard work and dedication of its nursing staff June 22 with a day full of celebratory activities. The MGH's first cardiac visiting nurse scholar — Jean McSweeney, RN, PhD, FAAN, of the University of Arkansas — led a clinical nursing session in the morning and presented her research findings in the afternoon. Her studies focused on helping women identify the symptoms of a heart attack or myocardial infarction.
  • Yawkey Center earns national recognition
    The MGH Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care recently earned national recognition from the 2006 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel awards program (IDEAS2). The IDEAS2 awards are given annually by the American Institute of Steel Construction to recognize outstanding achievements in engineering and architecture on structural steel projects around the country. The Yawkey Center won Merit Award recognition in the category "Projects Over $75 Million."
  • Revere runs for MGH Revere Youth Zone
    Close to 140 runners dashed along Revere Beach for the ninth annual MGH Revere HealthCare Center 5-Mile Road Race and Kids Fun Run June 17. Not to be outdone were 30 walkers who also participated in the event's 3-mile walk, and 25 children who raced down the course in the kids run. The sun was shining and a warm ocean breeze complemented the festive day.
  • 'Give the T a Shot' pilot programs
    MGHers who drive to and from work can take a one-week break from rush hour traffic, the recent Big Dig closings and rising gas prices thanks to MGH Commuter Services. The department has established two pilot programs, which allow MGHers who normally drive to try out the MBTA subway, bus or commuter rail.
  • Career of longtime MGH physician celebrated
    The distinguished career of Gerald S. Foster, MD, of MGH Internal Medicine, was honored recently at a special reception hosted by the MGH Clinical Policy and Record Committee as he retired after 55 years of service at the hospital.
