Emery N. Brown, MD, PhD, of the MGH Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care, has been elected a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. Brown was recognized for his contributions to the development of signal processing methods for the study of neural systems.

Francis L. Delmonico, MD, of MGH Transplant Surgery, recently received the 2006 David M. Hume Award from the National Kidney Foundation. The award recognizes extraordinary lifetime achievement and is the foundation's highest honor. Delmonico also has been appointed the director of Medical Affairs of the Transplantation Society and has received a joint appointment as an expert consultant to the World Health Organization on matters of organ donation and transplantation.

Elizabeth Schneider, director of the Treadwell Library, participated in the spring session of the BioMedical Informatics Course sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and held at the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory. Medical librarians, educators and physicians from around the world are eligible for the biannual, competitive weeklong fellowships.

Constance Dahlin, APRN, BC, of MGH Palliative Care Services, is this year's recipient of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association's (HPNA) 2006 "Leading the Way" award. Dahlin served as HPNA president in 2004, and during her tenure membership grew to more than 7,000. She was presented the award at the HPNA's Annual Assembly in Nashville.
