MGHers celebrate at annual Employee Summer Picnic

A week of rainy weather took a well-timed and welcome hiatus June 27 as hundreds of MGH employees gathered for the annual Employee Summer Picnic held under the Bulfinch Tent and on the lawns. Invited to the event by Peter L. Slavin, MD, MGH president, employees celebrated the summer sunshine with boxed lunches and snacks provided by MGH Nutrition and Food Services, carnival games by True North Events and Catering, and live music from the Volume II Steel Band. Guests also had the chance to try their hand at throwing a football like a pro at the Patriots Experience Football Toss. MGH Photography was on hand to capture these moments on film, and members of MGH Police and Security helped to ensure everyone's safety.

The highlight of the event was the appearance of special guests — New England Patriot, Richard Seymour, defensive tackle, and Eric Alexander, linebacker. MGH employees eagerly lined up to personally meet the football stars and have a special commemorative photo taken with them (above).

Evening-shift employees didn't miss out on the fun. They attended a special nighttime celebration from 10 pm to midnight under the Bulfinch Tent. Guests at the evening event also enjoyed boxed dinners and had the chance to play some of the same carnival games.

Employees also could pick up a photo frame gift with the words "The Power of Determination," which is the theme from the latest MGH ad campaign featuring New England Patriot and former MGH patient Tedy Bruschi.
