The MGH
Charlestown HealthCare Center hosted a special celebration June 10
to formally mark the opening of the Roger H. Sweet Patient and Family
Learning Center. The learning center is named in honor of Roger H. Sweet,
MD, a longtime MGH Charlestown physician and former medical director for
the MGH health centers, who was recognized for his commitment to education
and community-based medical care.
Plans for the learning center began in 2005, when MGH Charlestown staff
set a goal of increasing patient access to health information. The project
was supported with funding from the MGH Making a Difference grant program.
The new facility is modeled after the Blum
Patient and Family Learning Center located on the MGH main campus
and the ARCH Community Health Program located at MGH
Revere. The center provides a variety of health information to patients
and their families, and its services include individualized and group
teaching sessions, educational seminars, Internet-accessible computer
workstations and English and Spanish language books, videos and pamphlets.
Eileen McAdams, FNP, serves as its director.
The Sweet Patient and Family Learning Center is located on the lower level
of MGH Charlestown and is open Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 4
pm. For more information, contact (617) 724-0977 or ctneducation@partners.org.
