  • Commitment, excellence celebrated during MGH Nurse Recognition Week
Not only does the annual Nurse Recognition Week, held this year May 7 to 12, give MGH nurses an opportunity to reflect upon their accomplishments, but it also gives the entire MGH community a chance to honor these clinicians and the impact they have on the lives of patients and families every day.
  • MGH is a model for emergency preparations
The scenario was the stuff television medical dramas are made of — a MedFlight crash on the Blake Building helipad, a fatality and a gasoline fire. Luckily for the MGH, it was just a drill conducted by the hospital's Emergency Preparedness Program and Boston MedFlight to review the steps that would need to be taken in the unlikely event a disaster of this magnitude were to occur.
  • MGHer receives Young Clinician Award
Daniel S. Kohane, MD, PhD, a physician for the MassGeneral Hospital for Children's (MGHC) Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, recently was named by John A. Parrish, MD, director of the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (Cimit), as one of the recipients of the first CIMIT-Johnson & Johnson Young Clinician Research Awards.
  • Focus of Clinical Research Day: Changing practices
The challenges involved in bringing new medical treatments and procedures into clinical practice - what is known as the second translational block - will be the focus of the fourth annual MGH Clinical Research Day.
  • Physicians participate in leadership skills program
At the MGH, making sure that clinical staff members have all the educational tools and opportunities they need to continue to provide the best, most advanced patient care possible is a top priority. For physicians — who are often accustomed to working directly with patients — acquiring leadership and management roles can prove challenging. The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO) has established a leadership program to help doctors develop the skills they need to be successful in these types of positions.
  • Endoscopy nursing shows team spirit
ADVANCE for Nurses magazine recently named the group as the 2006 Best Nursing Team in the category of teamwork. They were selected for the award on the basis of how well they support one another, implement the concept of teamwork in meeting goals and the establishment of best practices. The MGH nurses on the team also are featured on the cover of the May 2006 issue.
  • Robert Scully, MD, honored
On April 18, ceremonies were held at Harvard Medical School (HMS) to celebrate the establishment of the Robert E. Scully Professorship in Pathology.
