• All hands on deck: MGHers celebrate
  The atmosphere on the USNS Comfort, a US Navy hospital ship, was charged with anticipation and excitement May 6 and 7 as hundreds boarded the ship for two special celebrations. On May 6, Navy personnel, MGHers and members of Project HOPE — an organization dedicated in part to providing relief and humanitarian assistance in areas of need — gathered to honor the collaboration that enabled more than 100 MGH physicians, nurses, social workers and other employees to deliver care and comfort to victims of the tsunami in Southeast Asia in December 2004 and hurricanes Katrina and Rita along the Gulf Coast in the fall of 2005.

• Nurse Recognition Week: MGH nurses are "simply the best"
  During the past week, the MGH has recognized the many accomplishments of the hospital's extraordinary nursing staff with special events, seminars, panel discussions, receptions and celebrations. MGH Nurse Recognition Week was launched with a special salute to nurses aboard the USNS Comfort Navy hospital ship May 7.

• MGH Orthopædics honored with prestigious awards
  Many MGH clinicians and researchers are members of national and international organizations that represent their chosen field of expertise, and often travel to annual meetings to represent the hospital. During one such meeting recently, members of MGH Orthopædics were honored by their peers from around the world with two prestigious awards, a recognition of their outstanding work in the field.

• Cardiac care in the community
  The MGH recently announced a partnership with Somerville Hospital, Cambridge Health Alliance and Cataldo Ambulance Service to enhance the quality of the cardiac care provided to residents of Somerville and the surrounding area.

• MGH honors cardiologist DeSanctis with portrait
  Friends, family and colleagues of Roman DeSanctis, MD, gathered to honor the longtime MGH cardiologist at a portrait unveiling May 2 in the Yawkey Center's Satter Conference room. The painting — commissioned by former MGH General Director and Glaxo Inc. chairman Charles Sanders, MD — is only the second portrait of an MGH cardiologist to be commissioned since the division was founded in 1914.

• MGH Charlestown helps keep kids safe
  Because keeping kids safe often can be a challenging job for even the most careful of parents, the MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center hosted a "Child Safety Fair" April 29 to educate the community about children's safety and injury prevention issues.
