Hockey
stars skate for United Way
Nearly 500 hockey fans filled the stands of the Stoneham Arena April 2
to cheer for Team MGH as they faced-off against the Black and Gold Legends
— a team of former Boston Bruins hockey players — at the fourth
annual celebrity hockey game
benefiting the hospital's United Way campaign. Although Team MGH lost
with a final score of 13 to 8, everyone involved still had reasons to
celebrate: Team MGH scored more goals than ever, and more importantly,
the event raised more than $21,000 to directly support a number of United
Way programs.
During halftime, Milton J. Little, Jr., president and chief executive
officer of the United Way of Massachusetts Bay, drew the names of raffle
winners and presented their prizes — including Bruins and Red Sox
tickets as well as autographed sports memorabilia. After the game, the
festivities continued at a reception at the Montvale Plaza, which was
attended by many Black and Gold Legends team members.
