  • Psychiatry residents run a "magical" race
    Mickey Mouse and his cast of friends recently had some help brightening the days of young patients of the MGH Child Psychiatry Service. A group of eight MGH Child Psychiatry residents and one staff member traveled to Mickey's home in the Magic Kingdom to run the Walt Disney World half-marathon Jan. 7, raising more than $12,000 to benefit patients.
  • "Go Red for Women" campaign celebrates healthy hearts
    According to the American Heart Association (AHA), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, killing approximately 500,000 females each year. To give women the tools, information and support they need to help prevent cardiovascular disease, the MGH Heart Center will host a variety of heart-healthy activities Jan. 30 through Feb. 3 as part of the AHA's "Go Red for Women" campaign, an annual effort that promotes better heart health for women of all ages.
  • Betancourt recognized by Latino community
    Joseph R. Betancourt, MD, MPH, director of the MGH Disparities Solutions Center, was named to the "Poderometro 2005/Powermeter 2005" by El Planeta, the largest Spanish-language magazine in Massachusetts. The list recognizes 100 individuals who have positively affected the Latino community in the state.
  • In memoriam: Paul Lindquist
    Paul Lindquist of MGH Patient Care Services died Jan. 15 at the age of 60 after an extended illness. An MGH employee for 33 years, Lindquist started at the MGH as a unit coordinator in 1973 and spent much of his time working in Orthopaedic units.
  • Lessons from a legacy: Martin Luther King remembered
    As with many traditions held at the MGH, the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., celebration has become a favorite for many employees. Hubie Jones, a well-known and revered educator, community activist and Boston-area civic leader, shared the lessons he has learned from King at this year's presentation, held Jan. 20 in the O'Keeffe Auditorium.
  • Be Fit: Massage class eases stress
    Most commonly used to flatten dough to make pies, rolling pins also can be used to loosen muscles and ease stress. Tips on how to use everyday household items to chase away tension were offered at the Be Fit program's massage class held Jan. 19.
