• Is there a doctor in the house?
  After a long weekend of business traveling, Davinder S. Jassal, MD, a fellow in MGH Cardiology, expected nothing more than to collect his baggage and head home when he arrived at Logan Airport in Boston the evening of Nov. 15. His medical training, however, was put to an unexpected test when a fellow traveler collapsed while standing at a telephone booth.

• New IMAX® movie spotlights the power of the human brain
  The brainpower of MGH neuropathologist Matthew Frosch, MD, PhD, soon will be coming to a theater near you. Frosch was part of an advisory team that lent its scientific expertise to the Partners HealthCare-produced IMAX-format film Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France, which explores the capabilities of the human brain.

• MGH investigators named to Scientific American 50
  Two MGH researchers have been named to the 2005 Scientific American 50, the magazine's annual list of outstanding leaders in science and technology. Zheng-Yi Chen, PhD, of MGH Neurology, and Bradley Hyman, MD, PhD, director of the Alzheimer's Unit in the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND), are among those honored in the magazine's December issue, which now is available on newsstands.

• Holiday shopping helps cancer patients
  MGHers got an early start on their holiday shopping at the 13th annual Friends of the MGH Cancer Center holiday fundraiser. More than 450 guests participated in the festivities held Nov. 17 at the Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Prudential Center in Boston.

• MGH named Employer of the Year by Easter Seals
  The MGH was named the Easter Seals Employer of the Year at the Easter Seals Massachusetts annual awards program Nov. 14. The award recognizes employers that are leaders in hiring people with disabilities.

• Ribakoff fellowship program established at MGH
  The MGH recently hosted a special guest who has generously established a fellowship program offering physicians from developing countries the opportunity to train with MGH clinicians. Eugene Ribakoff is the past president and current chairman of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, which conducts development and disaster relief activities in more than 50 countries outside of North America.

• ED staff share skills with nursing students
  A group of nursing students from Boston College recently visited the MGH Emergency
  Department (ED) as part of their pediatric rotation. ED staff nurses Laurie Shoemaker, RN; Ann Morrill, RN; Nancy McMullon, RN; and Russ Martin, RN, conducted a mock pediatric code, giving each student the opportunity to practice resuscitation skills on an infant mannequin.
