What's happening

MGH-East/CNY shuttle
Now that the Boston Garden demolition is complete, the MGH-East/CNY shuttle traveling from Charlestown to the main campus, will resume its stop on Causeway Street in front of the Fleet Center by the North Station MBTA Green Line, beginning Nov. 9. The shuttle will no longer stop behind the O'Neill Building. Shuttles going to CNY will continue to pick up riders on Canal Street next to the Orange Line entrance. Posters with maps of the shuttle route are available in the Gray Lobby and at CNY. For more information, call 6-2250.

Flu shots available
Flu vaccine now is available to MGH and Partners employees at the following   locations:

  • Central Lobby a drop-in clinic will be held through Nov. 14, 7 am to 5 pm. Bring employee badge
  • most patient care units through the peer vaccination program
  • some physician clinical rounds
  • at the Occupational Health Service on Clinics 3 by appointment

Open enrollment
The open enrollment period has begun, giving MGH and Partners employees the opportunity to review benefit choices and make changes, if desired. Employees can stop by the following BeneFairs and QuickStops to ask questions about various benefit programs:

Social Service rounds
The MGH Social Service Department will present the next of its grand rounds, "Working with Patients with Rare Diseases," Nov. 12, 10:30 am to noon, in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. CEUs are available for social workers. For more information, call 4-9115.

OWC hosts research seminar
The MGH Office for Women's Careers (OWC) will host a panel discussion for the research community entitled, "Mastering Academic Advancement I: How and When to Establish Independence as an Investigator," Nov. 18, 8 to 9:30 am, conference rooms 1 and 2, first floor, CNY Building 149. The panel will explore several issues important to junior investigators: authorship, rules for promotion, intellectual property issues and establishing independence. Surmounting language barriers
The MGH Ethics Task Force will present "Challenges of Language Barriers in Medical Care: Ethical Issues," Nov. 11, 5 to 6 pm, in the Ether Dome, with a reception beginning at 4:30 pm. For information, call 4-9188.

Complementary medicine
MGH Women's Health Associates and the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center are co-sponsoring a training series entitled "Complementary Medicine Approaches to Health and Illness." The next in the series is "Eastern Approaches to Healing: Acupuncture and Tai Chi" and will take place Nov. 12, noon to 1 pm, in the Wellman Conference Room. MGH IHP graduate programs
The MGH Institute of Health Professions will hold information sessions about its graduate programs in Clinical Investigation, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Nursing, and Physical Therapy, Nov. 12 and Dec. 11, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, at 101 Merrimac St. To attend, call 6-3140.

Aerobics class
The MGH Aerobics Program offers employees an opportunity to burn excess stress and calories, especially important now that the holidays are approaching. Certified instructors lead the workouts, which include aerobics, weight training and cool-down stretching. Classes, which run for approximately an hour, take place Monday through Friday, at noon, and Monday through Thursday evenings, at 5:15 pm. Lockers and showers are available. No registration is required and each class costs $4. For more information, call 4-7912 or 6-6990.

Cancer support programs
The MGH Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Program will present "What can I expect from cancer?" Nov. 10, noon to 1 pm, in the Cancer Resource Room, Cox 1. Patients, families and staff are welcome. For information, call 4-1822.
