Grant program for
support service employees The MGH Diversity Committee, chaired by James J. Mongan, MD, MGH president, has announced the introduction of a new Support Service Employee Grant Program. About 20 grants of up to $2,500 each will be awarded to help support service employees fulfill career goals while improving current job performance or advancement into other positions. According to Bonnie Michelman, director of MGH Police, Security and Parking and chairperson of the Support Service Employee Grant Program Committee, the grants allow employees to participate in continuing education or training programs of their choice. Areas of education and training may include clerical and practice support, skilled trades, clinical support and supervisory/management. In addition to financial assistance, employees will receive individualized support from a designated mentor. While tuition reimbursement benefits remain available to all eligible employees, the continuing education covered by the support service grants might not necessarily result in academic degrees. The grant program is designed to help employees offset tuition, books, supplies, transportation and family/child care expenses. Michael S. Jellinek, MD, senior vice president for Administration, says that the grant program, "will give some of our employees the time and support to develop new skills." Beginning in December, program details will be shared with all support service employees, and applications will be accepted. Jeff Davis, senior vice president for Human Resources, says of the program, "I encourage all employees in general support positions to learn about this opportunity and discuss it with their supervisors and managers." |
