Take a child to work
Save the date for "Take Our Children to Work Day" April 22. Adopted from "National Take Our Daughters to Work Day," the MGH event is an opportunity for children ages 9 to 14 to spend a day in the workplace and see women in nontraditional roles. Employees who would like to bring a child should contact their supervisors as well as consider the safety, access and appropriateness of having a child in the work area.

Schwartz Center Rounds
All MGH caregivers are invited to the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center Rounds March 26, noon to 1 pm, in the Walcott Conference Room. The topic of this month's rounds is "Race and the Patient-Caregiver Relationship." Lunch will be served starting at 11:45 am. To register, call 4-6862.

Demystifying Cancer
"Demystifying Cancer," a program featuring a symposium, lecture and informational displays about cancer will take place April 9 and 10 at the Museum of Science, which is offering the event in collaboration with the MGH. The free public lecture, which takes place April 9, 7 to 8:30 pm, will feature Bruce Chabner, MD, clinical director of the MGH Cancer Center, and division chief of Hematology/Oncology. His topic is "Understanding Cancer Research." The symposium entitled "Cancer Research and Treatment" will be held April 10, 10:30 am to 3 pm. Several experts from the MGH Cancer Center will give presentations. From 1 to 5 pm, exhibits highlighting some of the area's cancer resource and education centers – including the MGH's Cancer Resource Room and Blum Patient and Family Learning Center – will provide information materials for the public. MGH IHP Presentation
The MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP) invites the MGH community to attend a presentation entitled "Serving the Underserved," March 24, 5 pm, in the ballroom of the Government Center Holiday Inn, 5 Blossom St.  James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, will deliver the keynote address, followed by a panel discussion among MGH IHP alumni whose careers are devoted to caring for underserved populations. The registration fee is $25 and includes the cost of dinner.

1998 reimbursement accounts
Employees who contributed to a health care or dependent care account in 1998 must submit their claims for reimbursement by March 31. Request for reimbursement forms and proof of expenses should be sent to the Benefits Office, 101 Merrimac St., fifth floor. For more information, call 6-8113.

Cancer support
The MGH Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Program will host the following programs for cancer patients, families, friends and staff noon to 1 pm, in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1: "Spirituality, Faith, Why Me? Reasons to Hope" March 22, and "Cancer and Fatigue: Discussion and Support" March 23. For more information, call 4-1822.

Photo contest featuring nurses
To celebrate Nurse Recognition Week in May, the MGH Nursing Department will sponsor a photo contest for pictures capturing nurses in practice. Prizes include $500 for first place and $250 for second place. Photos must be black and white, and should be submitted along with the photographer's name, unit number and telephone, subject's name and a signed release form (available in Founders 125).
