MGH in the news
The March 14 issue of The Boston Globe Magazine is expected to feature an article focusing on end-of-life issues. Reporter Charlie Stein worked closely with the MGH Optimum Care Committee on this article.

St. Patrick's Day celebration
The Patient Care Services Diversity Committee invites the MGH community to celebrate St. Patrick's Day March 17, 10 am to 4 pm, in the (recently changed location) Main Corridor. The event will include live traditional Irish music and step dancing as well as videos and informational materials about Irish history. A Mass featuring guest musicians will be held from 11 am to noon in the MGH Chapel. In addition, information will be available on such health topics as skin and lung cancer, osteoporosis, colitis and asthma. For more information, call Deborah Washington, RN, at 4-7469.

Cancer support
The MGH Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Program offers ongoing programs for cancer patients, families, friends and staff in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1. The next seminar, "Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplantation: A Discussion," will take place March 19, noon to 1 pm. In addition, drop-in yoga classes meet every Thursday. The next class will be held March 18, noon to 1 pm. For more information, call 4-1822.

Domestic Violence Working Group meeting
Employees can help the MGH effort to end domestic violence by joining the Domestic Violence Working Group, an interdisciplinary group that meets monthly to discuss and implement strategies to increase awareness and understanding of domestic violence throughout the hospital. New members are welcome to the next meeting March 17, 9 to 10 am, in Burr Conference Room 3, third floor, Bartlett Hall Extension. For more information, call 4-0054.

PeopleSoft training
PeopleSoft online requisition classes are being offered through March 30, Tuesdays, 8:30 am to noon, in Founders, room 643. All participants should have a working knowledge of Windows software. To sign up for training, call 4-1388.

Therapy for head and neck carcinoma
James Rocco, MD, PhD, Department of Otolaryngology, Johns Hopkins Hospital, will present a lecture entitled "Tumor Suppressive Gene Therapy for Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma" March 19, 8 am, MEEI, fourth floor conference room. All are welcome to attend. For more information, call 573-3654.

Clinical research seminar
The Clinical Research Program will host the next of its Clinical Research Coordinator Luncheon Seminar Series for clinical research coordinators and research nurses. The panel discussion entitled "Professional Societies and Professional Certification" will take place March 25, noon to 1 pm, in the Wellman Conference Room. To register, call 6-1669 by March 19.

Endocrine Grand Rounds
The next Endocrine Grand Rounds topic, "Coactivators and Thyroid Hormone Action," will be presented March 16, at noon, in the Ether Dome. To receive weekly e-mail notices and periodic schedules for upcoming Endocrine Grand Rounds, send name, department and e-mail address to kminyard@partners.org. Paper copies will continue to be sent to departments for posting.

Seminar on thoracic malignancies
Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare will host a course for physicians and oncology professionals who treat patients with cancers of the lung and esophagus entitled "Innovative Approaches and Therapies for the Treatment of Thoracic Malignancies" March 31, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, Boston. The free seminar will feature faculty speakers from the MGH and other Harvard-affiliated institutions. Registration is required by March 24. To attend or for more information, call (800) 553-3787.

Harvard seeks nominations for two women's awards
Harvard Medical School and the School of Dental Medicine currently are accepting nominations for two awards: the Dean's Award for the Support and Advancement of Women Faculty – due March 16, and the Dean's Award for the Support and Advancement of Women Staff – due March 29. Aerobics program
The MGH/MEEI Aerobics Program offers employees a variety of daily exercise classes, which take place from 12:05 to 12:50 pm, and from 5:15 to 6:30 pm. Classes include hi/lo and step aerobics and muscle conditioning. Sessions cost $4 each and do not require registration. Schedules are available in the aerobics room, located in the basement of Ruth Sleeper Hall, or by calling 4-7912 or 6-6990.
